methionine aminopeptidase-2
methionine aminopeptidase-2
A cobalt- and magnesium-binding cytoplasmic methionyl aminopeptidase encoded by METAP2 on chromosome 12q22, which plays a key role in regulating post-translational processing and protein synthesis, by hydrolysing N-terminal methionine from newly synthesized proteins. It is a molecular target for angiogenesis inhibitors and thus has therapeutic potential in tumour progression, diabetic retinopathy, rheumatoid arthritis, and other conditions characterised by angiogenesis.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc.
