Mark Cowan initiated a fund drive for Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown (MCIH) staff to purchase Christmas gifts for residents at Big Pine Children's Home, which houses up to 14 boys ages 8 to 18 who are victims of neglect and/or abuse.
Additionally, with Cowan's support, the MCIH inmate Jaycee organization decided to donate the proceeds from its annual walkathon to Big Pine.
Last year, donations to Big Pine included more than $2,000 from the three institutions' staff, $1,500 from the MCIH Inmate Jaycee Walkathon and 14 to 15 boxes of goods and clothing from the MCIH general inmate population.
