Lung volume reduction surgery Surgery The excision of poorly functioning peripheral areas of emphysematous lung to improve functional air-exchange and function by ↑ airway conductance, conductance to lung volume ratio, elastic recoil; LRS may be used in Pts with COPD to alleviate SOB and improve exercise tolerance; the best indicator of clinical response to LVRS is lung resistance; Pts with a marked ↑ in inspiratory resistance have predominantly intrinsic airway disease and don't benefit from LVRS.
