In overcoming this, P capitata was further furnished with
lenticels on the leaf's midrib (Figure 4).
The fruit quality attributes used in this comparative impact analysis study included skin color, firmness, skin browning, sap burn, rots, physical damage and
lenticels spots.
The opening of the
lenticels is so small that air can enter, but not water.
Browning, surface pitting and
lenticel discoloration of fruits were used as indicators for chilling injury.
Unsightly rotted or discolored
lenticel tissues render the potatoes unmarketable, and occasionally shipments of California potatoes are dumped.
The main physiological disorders of apple orchards are lack of calcium, bitter pit,
lenticels breakdown, jonathan spot, internal breakdown, watercore and stem-end splitting (CURRY et al., 2008; AMARANTE, et al., 2009; AMARANTE et al., 2010).
Fruits were analyzed for soluble solids content, titratable acidity, starch pattern index, flesh firmness, skin background color, and incidence of russeting, bitter pit and
lenticels blotch pit, and for N, K, Ca and Mg, at harvest and after cold storage.
Some flood-tolerant species absorb oxygen through stomata or
lenticels and transport it to the roots, from which it diffuses to the rhizosphere (Kozlowski & Pallardy, 1997b).
Fruits were analyzed for total soluble solids (TSS; Brix), titratable acidity (TEA; meq of malic acid [100mL.sup.-1]), starch pattern index (scale of 1 to 5, where 1 indicates the least and 5 the most starch to sugar conversion), flesh firmness (N), skin background color (scale of 1 to 8, corresponding to dark-green and yellow-green, respectively), severity of russeting ([cm.sup.2] [fruit.sup.-1]), incidence (%) of bitter pit and
lenticels blotch pit, and concentration of N, K, Ca and Mg.
Among the adaptations that fit tupelos to their wet substrate are protruding underwater
lenticels and proliferation of new roots (Hook et al., 1970a; Hook, Langdon et al., 1970).
Lenticel A small "corky" area on a stem that allows gas exchange; may be vertical or horizontal to the apex.
The peel should be perfect until reaching the final consumer, which is the biggest challenge in the export of this fruit, since it is fragile and in the
lenticels usually shelter spores of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz, causal agent of anthracnose as well as other pathogens.
