(i) Foreign bodies in the paraglottic space can be removed via
laryngofissure and posterolateral approach.
Large tumors can be excised through external approaches, like
Laryngofissure, Lateral pharyngotomy and sub-hyoidpharyngology whereas small tumors are excised endoscopically.
(5) In our patient, we preferred simple excision via a
laryngofissure approach.
They were also advised of the possible need for an open repair with
laryngofissure and tracheotomy if the endoscopic approach failed to provide satisfactory results, and they provided informed consent.
A 44-year-old man presented with squamous cell carcinoma (T1aNOMO) on the left vocal fold and was prepared for a combined
laryngofissure cordectomy and type III thyroplasty.
Obviously, the endoscopic approaches for the repair of type 1 and 2 clefts have many advantages over the open approaches, including avoidance of a skin incision,
laryngofissure, and pharyngotomy.
Laryngofissure with keel or stent placement may be performed for more severe obstructions; it allows for simultaneous treatment of subglottic stenosis and cartilage grafting.
The treatment of choice for an oncocytic lesion is complete endoscopic excision or, if necessary,
laryngofissure. A partial laryngectomy is occasionally required.
They range from the minimally invasive endoscopic needle aspiration to more involved procedures such as marsupialization, extended ventriculotomy, and the open
laryngofissure approach.
Options include open
laryngofissure, thyrotomy, organ preservation with partial laryngectomy, and endoscopic laser resection.
(6) The preferred surgical approaches for removal of laryngeal neurilemmomas are the transhyoid approach, the
laryngofissure approach, and the lateral pharyngotomy approach.
* Some extensive reconstructive procedures for example,
laryngofissure, arytenoidectomy, vocal fold resection, and cordotomy--may result in a secure airway and closure of the tracheotomy site at the expense of voice quality.
