The study group consisted of 50 patients with superolateral
infrapatellar fat pad edema, 33 females (66%) and 17 males (34%) (mean age 38.6 [+ or -]12.1 years; range, 19 to 66 years).

This is in accordance with a previous study showing that synovium and the
infrapatellar fat pad are major sources of adipokines [31].
The
infrapatellar fat pad of the knee joint, also known as Hoffa's fat pad (Hoffa, 1904) is an intra-articular inclusion that separates the antero-inferior synovial membrane from the more anterior structures of the knee joint.

The roentgenogram of the right knee revealed several ossifying formations that did not cause any erosion in the adjacent bone cortex and placed on the localization of the lateral
infrapatellar fat pad, independent from bone structures, and it also demonstrated moderate degree of osteoarthritis (Figure 1).
A multisequence MRI examination of the left knee was performed revealing mild chondromalacia patella with early delamination of the medial facet, mild
infrapatellar fat pad inflammation, and a very small Baker's cyst with no effusion.
