hand interpretation

The interpretation of physical characteristics of the hand as a way of assessing an individual.

Hand interpretation variations
• Chirognomy (Cheirognomy)—The study of the hand’s shape, flexibility, colour, texture and the manner in which its owner uses it, which is believed by some to indicate various organ defects. 
• Chiromancy (Palmistry)—The (non-mainstream) interpretation of the lines of the hand (figure): 
(1) Line of life—Reveals vitality; breaks indicate illness or major changes;  
(2) Line of fate—Reveals things may come to bear on the person;  
(3) Line of the sun—Reveals artistic inclinations; 
(4) Line of health—Not always present; if present, it may indicate health problems; 
(5) Line of head—Reveals intelligence; 
(6) Line of heart—Reveals emotional and sexual life; 
(7) Girdle of Venus—Reveals restlessness, changeable personality. 
• Dermatoglyphics—The scientific study of skin patterns, which were studied by Sir Francis Galton (1822–1910) and whose pioneering work on fingerprints resulted in their classification according to three patterns: loops, arches and whorls.
