chlorofluorocarbon
(klôr′ō-flo͝or′ō-kär′bən, -flôr′-)n. Abbr. CFC Any of various halocarbon compounds consisting of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine, once used widely as aerosol propellants and refrigerants. Volatile chlorofluorocarbons are believed to cause depletion of the atmospheric ozone layer.
