granulocyte colony stimulating factor

A circulating hormonal substance that controls the growth of some of the white cells of the blood. The human gene for this factor has been sequenced and the factor is produced by recombinant DNA techniques (genetic engineering) and sold under brand names such as Granocyte and Neupogen.
