Infection of any part of the body with any fungal organism. Skin fungus infections include various forms of ‘ringworm’ (TINEA) from infection with fungi of the genus Trichophyton . (THRUSH) (candidiasis) is infection with the fungus Candida albicans , a yeast fungus which favours the mouth and the vagina. ‘Opportunistic’ fungi are those attacking very debilitated people, people with AIDS, those on immunosuppressive treatment or people with widespread cancer, severe diabetes or long-term (chronic) infections such as tuberculosis.
