flocculus

 [flok´u-lus] (pl. floc´culi) (L.)

1. a small tuft, as of wool or similar material, or small mass of other fibrous material such as one of the flakes of a flocculent solution.

2. one of the small paired, partially detached lateral lobules continuous with the nodule of the cerebellum, separated from each cerebellar hemisphere by a fissure; they form part of the flocculonodular lobe.

1. A tuft or shred of cotton or wool or anything resembling it.

2. A small lobe of the cerebellum at the posterior border of the middle cerebellar peduncle anterior to the biventer lobule; it is associated with the nodulus of the vermis; together, these two structures compose the flocculonodular lobe (vestibular part) of the cerebellum.

2. Anatomy Either of two small lobes on the lower posterior border of the cerebellum.

3. Astronomy Any of various cloudlike or filamentary masses of luminous gas appearing as bright patches on the surface of the sun often surrounding sunspots.
