Although these barnacles cause in some cases deformation of the colony, as is most evident in the case of the barnacle Savignum milleporae on the "
fire coral" (Millepora dichotoma), it may well be that both barnacle and coral benefit from the association.
Hoegh-Guldberg et al., (1987) monitored a
fire coral, a reef-building coral, and two soft corals and found that expulsion increased and most often peaked during the first part of the dark period (night).
Choose from turquoise, purple amethyst, golden amber or sizzling red

Furthermore, mosaicism has been found to amplify the standing genetic variation in populations of red algae, seagrasses, sponges, and
fire corals (Milleporidae) (Santelices et al., 1995; Blanquer and Uriz, 2011; Reusch and Bostrom, 2011; Schweinsberg et al., 2017), which could be critical in reef corals suffering from recent population bottlenecks (Baums, 2008).
It has all kinds of hard corals; amongst the most beautiful are table corals,
fire corals and brain corals.
Less affected were
fire corals of the genus Millepora (Figure 1(a)), due to the erected and branching growth form and the limited contact area between coral tissue and mucus webs.
