Gen Y

A popular term that describes the demographic cohort following Generation X, which has been variously defined as corresponding to those born between the mid-1970s up to the early 2000s. They are also known as the Echo Boomers, given that many of them are children of baby boomers.

While GenXers are looking for the right dining room set, Generation Y (or Echo Boomers or Millennials) is looking for self-actualization.
Consumer marketing research firm Yankelovich labels the leading-edge millennials--those who turned 27 starting in 2006--as "echo boomers" and has a few marketing suggestions on reaching them:
Generation Y (born between 1981 and 1995, possibly coined by author Eric Chester), also called Millennials and Echo Boomers: Too young to conform, too old to rebel.
The report, which is issued annually, found that the poverty rate among children aged 12-17 years slightly increased between the early (1975-1977) and late years (2003-2005) of the study, rising from 15.5% for "late baby boomers" in the first time period to 16.3% among "echo boomers" in the second period.
