duplication, chromosomal

a type of CHROMOSOMAL MUTATION in which part of a chromosome is replicated, so producing extra copies of those genes contained in the duplicated segment. For example, the ‘Bareye’ mutation in Drosophila is due to a duplication of a segment along the X-CHROMOSOME.
