plastic surgery of the bladder, usually referring to some type of augmentation cystoplasty.

augmentation cystoplasty enlargement of the bladder by grafting to it a detached segment of intestine (enterocystoplasty) or stomach (gastrocystoplasty). Called also bladder augmentation.

sigmoid cystoplasty augmentation cystoplasty using an isolated segment of the sigmoid colon for the graft.

cystoplasty

Any structural surgical procedure performed on the urinary bladder. Clam augmentation cystoplasty is a complex surgical procedure used to treat the condition of unstable or irritable (hyper-reflexive) bladder. The organ is split into two and then reconstituted using a patch of gut taken from the small intestine. This greatly weakens bladder function and prevents full voiding but is effective in controlling involuntary urination.
