Its rostral limit was present at the level of cranial face of first molar tooth and extends upto level of
cribriform plate of ethmoid bone (Fig.
Furthermore, less Mn from the oxide was found on the
cribriform plate area and the turbinates (representative of the olfactory mucosa), indicating greater retention of the Mn[Cl.sub.2] by those tissues (Figure 5A).
The suggested displacement of the crista galli and apparent intact dens and atlanto-occipital articulation are consistent with the type of trauma resulting from a device such as a rod or brain hook pushed through the
cribriform plate to remove the brain.
Regarding the
cribriform plate, group 1 showed better results for excellent and good visibility but worse results for poorly visible and not visible in comparison to group 2 (see Table 2).
The case of OLN was suspected due to its radiological features which showed involvement of the olfactory fossa and the
cribriform plate and was confirmed with a prior biopsy.
This tumor involved the medial orbital wall, the
cribriform plate, and the planum sphenoidale; evidence of intracranial extension was also seen (figure 1).
The Crista galli (CG), seen as a ridge in the anterior part of the anterior cranial fossa, is a thick, smooth, triangular bony process that projects upward from the
cribriform plate of the ethmoid bone.
One of our patients with congenital defects of skull and spinal cord had nine episodes of meningitis before a defect in
cribriform plate was discovered and successfully repaired.
CT and MRI of both cases revealed the defect in
cribriform plate and frontal bone.
Spontaneous leaks are thought to be due to sustained or intermittent rise of intracra-nial pressure (ICP) which exerts increased pulsatile hydrostatic forces at the naturally weekend sites of skull base such as
cribriform plate or lateral recess of sphenoid sinus.
During the mummification process, the brain was destroyed and removed via the nose and through the
cribriform plate. (3) But in the Edmund Smith Papyrus, the brain is identified as an organ, (4) and limited neuro-anatomical features such as the meninges, cerebrospinal fluid, surface blood vessels and convolutions, which were observed through open skull wounds, are mentioned.
