A perennial herb, the root of which is anti-inflammatory, antitussive, cardiotonic, diuretic and emollient; it is used for poor circulation, cough, diabetes mellitus, hypoglycaemia, haemoptysis, shortness of breath, and recuperation from labor, surgery and disease.
