clinical directorate lead at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals, set up the iCares scheme five years ago after realising how difficult it was for patients to navigate the system and the waste created by multiple teams.
The Medical Imaging
clinical directorate was formed in 2015 with its own governance structure and in 2016 the DON position was introduced, resulting in an increased emphasis and focus on nursing, safety and quality and values based leadership.
Implementating National Health Insurance (NHI) also calls for better management of health facilities and health districts, and proposes that smaller hospitals be managed by doctors while larger ones have a
clinical directorate. This would require a specialist medical manager with competence in evidence-based medicine, clinical medicine, clinical economics and administrative medicine, acquired through theoretical and experiential learning under constant supervision.
A full breakdown of the jobs affected was not available, but several senior nursing jobs and some general management positions will be affected in the shake up of its
clinical directorate.
