Molecular characterization of
ciliate diversity in stream biofilms.
Structure and coiling of the stalk in the peritrich
ciliates Vorticella and Carchesium.
Ciliates move by means of cilia allowing them to rotate and move forward and backward.
Effects of the epizoic
ciliate Epistylis daphinae, on growth, reproduction and mortality of Boeckella triarticulata (Thompson) (Copepoda: Calanoida).
Head with epistoma feebly convex on disc, finely microreticulate, distally confusedly rugose, on disc finely, sparsely and regularly punctured; clypeus subtruncate anteriorly, widely rounded laterally, thickly bordered, the edge feebly upturned and sparsely, rather shortely
ciliate laterally; genae subauriculate, obtusely rounded, sparsely elongately
ciliate, distinctly protruding more than eyes; frontal suture distinctly impressed; front distinctly regularly punctured.
Very young petiole (rachis) explants exhibited higher regeneration potential in Toona
ciliate compared to leaf explants (unpublished data); regeneration efficiency was found to be highly dependent on callus type.
Rumen
ciliate protozoa have been known to have fibrolytic activity [23], and the fungi in the rumen have also been considered to produce fibrolytic enzymes [26].
We recorded 48
ciliate morphospecies from the sediment samples taken from Jose Pereira stream (Figure 1).
In Mexico however; the records on protozoan parasites are specific for parasites
ciliates, and they are limited to Trichodina symmetrica in Sarotherodon hornorum Trewavas, 1966 and cultured O.
In vitro methane formation and carbohydrate fermentation by rumen microbes as influenced by selected rumen
ciliate species.
The methanogens found both attached and inside
ciliate protozoal cells have been estimated to contribute between 9 % and 37 % of the rumen methanogenesis (Finlay et al., 1994; Newbold et al., 1995a).
