cholera sicca
A term of historic interest that preceded recognition that fluid replacement was required to successfully treat cholera. In cholera sicca, ileus (intestinal paralysis) is the initial manifestation of Vibrio cholera infection. Because the fluid is sequestered in the small and large intestine, the volume of fluid loss due to diarrhoea is not appreciated.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc. All rights reserved.
