old term for acute severe gastroenteritis of unknown etiology, marked by severe colic, vomiting, and diarrhea with watery stools; formerly common during hot weather.

cholera morbus

Any severe form of gastroenteritis which clinically resembles cholera, characterised by abundant watery diarrhoea, affecting any age group and allegedly more common in hot weather; it is no longer used in the working medical parlance.
