The weak acid pH between 6.7-6.9 has been reported the optimal for activity of
cellulolytic bacteria namely Ruminococcus albus, Ruminococcus flavefaciens, Fibrobacter succinogenes.
In contrast, when the medium is selective, a new barrier is added, making the potential number of bacterial strains smaller; thus, the amount of some bacterial groups in the treated group was not significantly higher than that of the control group despite the observed trend for Vibrio, Bacillus and
cellulolytic bacteria.
In the present study, we analyzed and compared the
cellulolytic ability of 22 white-rot fungi, isolated from woody materials collected from the subtropical rainforest of the province of Misiones, Argentina, grown on agar medium supplemented with either sodium carboxy-methylcellulose (CMC) or crystalline cellulose (CC).
For the municipalities in the Magdalena Medio subregion, the numbers of heterotrophic bacteria,
cellulolytic bacteria, and Actinobacteria were higher on average in the municipalities of Puerto Berrio and Puerto Nare, with 1.7 x [10.sup.5], 3.0 x [10.sup.5], and 3.3 x [10.sup.3] CFU/g of dry soil, respectively, compared to the population densities obtained in the municipality of Puerto Triunfo, with 5.0 x [10.sup.4], 2.0 x [10.sup.4], and 1.0 x [10.sup.1] CFU/g of dry soil, respectively.
In the presence of readily metabolizable carbon sources, such as glucose, the fungus represses the genes accountable for the expression of
cellulolytic enzymes as a way of saving energy, while in the presence of inductive carbon sources, such as cellobiose and sophorose, the fungus activates the cellulase production.

Cellulolytic and Hemicellulolytic Abilities of Fungi Isolated from Coffee Residue and Sawdust Composts, Microbes Environ., 26, 220 (2011).
(2014) described fungi with
cellulolytic activity, which were isolated from a subtropical and tropical forest in China and mostly from the genus Penicillium.
Microbial
cellulolytic enzymes have shown their potential application in various industries including pulp and paper, textile, bioethanol, wine, brewery, olive oil, carotenoid, feedstuffs, detergents and waste management.
