The differential diagnosis for a lead pipe appearance of the colon includes Crohn's disease,
cathartic colon (which usually occurs in the descending colon and spares the rectum), tuberculosis, and, rarely, amebiasis.
Loss of haustration is not unique to UC; it also occurs in Crohn's colitis,
cathartic colon, diversion colitis, dysenteries, tuberculous strictures, progressive systemic sclerosis and amyloid infiltration.
