the flask-shaped female reproductive unit of a flower, composed of ovary, style and stigma. One or more carpels goes to make up the entire female structure, the GYNOECIUM.

In his studies, this allele caused glanded carpel walls, even in the presence of homozygous [gl.sub.1] (Lee, 1974), and appeared to also cause the carpellary surface to be rugate (Lee, 1978).
