This solution was continuously oxygenated with
carbogen gas (95% [O.sub.2] + 5% C[O.sub.2]) throughout the experiment starting at least 30 minutes prior to obtaining the brain slices.
Johnson held positions as director for the high potency division of Dishman Group's
Carbogen Amcis operation, headquartered in Basel and as business manager for the strategic marketing of the oncology portfolio of Italy's UQUIFA.
The increase in blood flow in nonsmokers due to
carbogen respiration was found in comparison to the relatively stable blood flow in smokers.
9 and glucose 11.1; pH 7.5 at 37 [degrees]C) and constantly aerated by
carbogen (95% [O.sub.2] - 5 % C[O.sub.2]), while control samples were exposed to Tyrode alone (n = 3-5 per group) at same conditions.
The skull cavities were washed with synthetic interstitial fluid (SIF) containing (in mM): 120 NaCl, 5 KCl, 2 Ca[Cl.sub.2], 1 Mg[Cl.sub.2], 11 glucose, 1 NaHP[O.sub.4], 24 NaHC[O.sub.3], continuously gassed with
carbogen (95% [O.sub.2] and 5% [CO.sub.2]), equilibrating the solution at pH 7.4 at room temperature.
Carbogen therapy is one of them which acts by inhalation, increases arterial oxygen saturation and maximises oxygen supply to the inner ear.
The most frequently used gas is
carbogen (95% [O.sub.2] and 5% C[O.sub.2]) as described in Kietzmann's model (Kietzmann et al., 1993).
The jejunum was cut into equal segments, flushed with normal saline to remove the contents, and then immersed in ice-cold Krebs solution that was pregassed with
carbogen. Each segment was inverted by gently pushing a notched glass rod through the whole length of the intestine and then filled with 1 ml of Krebs solution.
Full urinary bladder and ileum were carefully removed from the abdomen, then placed in cold Kreb's solution (118 mM NaCl, 4.7 mM KCl, 25 mM NaHC[O.sub.3], 1.15 mM Na[H.sub.2]P[O.sub.4], 2.5 mM Ca[Cl.sub.2], 1.1 mM Mg[Cl.sub.2], and 5.6 mM glucose), equilibrated with a
carbogen mixture (95% [O.sub.2], 5% C[O.sub.2]) [32].
