The rate of retention of a crab with a given
carapace width is the probability of being retained by the fisherman once found and captured.
Any possible relationship between smaller (CL < 25 mm) and larger (CL > 25 mm) specimens were determined by comparing the ratios between the means of above measurements and mean
carapace length (CL/ABW, CL/POCL, CL/CW, CL/CD, CL/ChL, CL/ChW) of all individuals in each group.
To determine the occurrence of sexual dimorphism in the
carapace shape, principal component analysis (PCA) was performed on the variance-covariance matrix of the residuals from the GPA.
Stridulatory organs (sensu Maddison 1987): present in both sexes and represent a legcarapace stridulatory mechanism, with narrow band of 7-9 seta-bearing tubercles on
carapace below lateral eyes and 4-6 seta-bearing tubercles on prolateral surface of femora of leg I (Figs 5-7, arrowed).
It was observed that crab leg and shrimp shell chitosan have higher values of viscosity than
carapace and claw shell chitosan.
Carapace width and crusher height were measured for each crab after Milke and Kennedy (2001).
Carapace width also increased during the whole metamorphosis experiment from Z1 until 4M stage, while %
carapace width gain varied among the different stages (Figure 1).
I used two-way ANOVA to test for differences in mean body mass and lengths of
carapace between sexes and sites (both fixed variables).
Measurements of the
carapace and pereopods were made in accordance with Osawa et al.
