Ventral depression of the anterior cephalothorax of soft ticks (family Argasidae) in which the mouth parts (capitulum) lie.

Unlike hard ticks, soft ticks have mouthparts that are not readily visible dorsally because their capitulum in the nymph and adult stages lies in a depression (called a camerostome) that has a dorsal wall (called a hood) that extends over the capitulum (Figure 4-4).
