Results of pulmonary function tests with pre- and post-albuterol challenge done a year ago were also normal Does Luke have exercise-induced
bronchoconstriction (EIB)?
Depending on the temperature or quality of the air during exercise,
bronchoconstriction may then occur.
There are two main causes of asthma symptoms: inflammation (swelling and irritation in the airways) and
bronchoconstriction (tightening of the muscles surrounding the airways).
Bronchospasm--Sudden constriction of the airways, or
bronchoconstriction.
Reduced subjective awareness of
bronchoconstriction provoked by methacholine in elderly asthmatic and normal subjects as measured on a simple awareness scale.
The first is inflammation and swelling of the delicate lining of the lungs, and the second is contraction of the muscular airway walls (
bronchoconstriction).
Bronchoconstriction. Narrowing of bronchial tubes, providing increased opportunity for inhaled particles to be trapped along the mucous lining of the airway.
Bronchoconstriction is accompanied later by inflammation of the sensitive lining of the bronchioles, adding to the narrowing and obstruction.
Factors that may contribute to these increases include exposure to infections and other "triggers" for
bronchoconstriction and inflammation, patterns of health-care use, patient compliance and understanding of treatment, current medical regimen [5], air quality [12], and the severity and prevalanece of disease.
Athletes are more susceptible to exercise induced
bronchoconstriction (EIB) than the general population, with those affected being permitted to use up to 1600 [micro]g (max of 800 [micro]g in a 12 hour period) of inhaled salbutamol per day on an as needed basis for the relief of symptoms (Dickinson et al., 2006; 2011; Molphy et al., 2014; WAD A, 2017).
Her
bronchoconstriction completely cleared up, even though it was the middle of pollen season.
