brassy body

A near-extinct term for a finding by light microscopy in patients with malaria, which has been defined as either:
(1) A dark shrunken erythrocyte which contains plasmodia; or
(2) Refractile debris that remains after malarial merozoites have vacated the erythrocyte.

Neither definition is used in the working medical parlance.
