bovine aortic arch

A term of art for the most common anatomic variation of the arteries that arise from the aortic arch. In the usual configuration, the arch gives rise to:
(1) Brachiocephalic trunk (innominate artery);
(2) Left common carotid artery;
(3) Left subclavian artery.

In the bovine aortic arch, the brachiocephalic trunk and the carotid artery share a common origin

Multislice computed tomography (MSCT) showed a heavily calcified, tortuous iliofemoral vasculature (minimal lumen diameter (MLD) right: 5.7 mm; left: 5.8 mm), small subclavian arteries (MLD: 4.5 mm), and a bovine aortic arch (Figure 1).
Additional risk factors include bovine aortic arch anatomy, hypertension, inflammatory conditions, and cocaine use.
