bone marrow purging

The removal of subpopulations of cells—ideally residual tumour cells—from the bone marrow, which is key to successful transplantation of autologous hematopoietic stem cells for treating leukaemia.

Purging methods
Photodynamic therapy, pharmacologic, biophysical agents (laser photoirradiation or radioisotopes), immunologic agents.
