heliotrope

(hēl-ē-ō-trōp'),
A violaceous to dusky erythematous rash, with or without edema, in a symmetric distribution involving periorbital skin. It is a common cutaneous manifestation of dermatomyositis and is also noted in about 5% of cases of systemic lupus erythematosus.
