blood pressure wave

A pressure wave initiated by the heart during the systole, which begins in the ascending aorta and precedes the blood flow, and is transmitted along the vessel walls to the periphery, and which is palpable as the peripheral pulse—e.g., radial pulse. When the wave is reflected at the periphery, it runs back to the heart.
