An important difference between the effects of status and power is that power increases focus on oneself and one's own goals (Keltner et al., 2003), whereas status increases one's focus on others and their needs (
Blader & Chen, 2012;
Blader et al., 2016; Flynn, Reagans, Amanatullah, & Ames, 2006), primarily because status is granted by others (Blau, 1964; Fragale at al., 2011; Henrich & Gil-White, 2001).
