FPCCI President also met newly appointed Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, Imtiaz Ahmed at the Pakistan Embassy in Tokyo and discussed promotion of
bilateral trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Japan.
He said both countries should provide better market access to each other's private sectors, grant more tariff concessions and remove all non-tariff barriers that will help in promoting
bilateral trade up to actual potential.
Earlier, the Advisor to PM apprised the delegation that Pak-Iran
bilateral trade was not up to the available potential and urged the Iranian side to take necessary steps to remove non-trade barriers so that real potential of
bilateral trade could be realized.
These issues included removing barriers which made Pak-Iran preferential trade agreement signed in 2006 ineffective and establishing a barter trade mechanism in order to ramp up
bilateral trade in agriculture, food and pharmaceutical products.
Nevertheless unfortunately, Pakistan, Iran, India and Afghanistan had a very low proportion of
bilateral trade with the neighboring countries, he said.
Addressing Pakistan-Iran Business Community in Tehran on Monday, he said countries with strong economies have a very high proportion of
bilateral trade with regional countries.
He said the countries, which had been doing well in the economic sector like China, South East Asia and ASEAN nations, had a higher proportion of
bilateral trade with their neighbouring countries.
