best practice

A UK term of art referring to a process or method that represents the most effective way of achieving a specific objective, or which has been proven to work well and produce good results, and is thus recommended as a model. Most best practice programmes combine two key and complementary elements: explicit knowledge, such as a best practices database (connecting people with information), and methods for sharing tacit knowledge, such as communities of practice (connecting people with people).
