(23) Nutritional requirements for B-6 (pyridoxine or pyridoxal 5'-phosphate) may be increased by the use of certain medications (oral contraceptives, isoniazid, hydralazine,
benserazide, penicillamine, phenelzine, cycloserine, thiamphenicol carbidopa, etc.).
For L-dopa treatment, 25 mg/kg L-dopa (L-dopa methyl ester hydrochloride-Sigma-Aldrich, USA) was dissolved in saline together with 6.25 mg/kg
benserazide (
benserazide hydrochloride-Sigma-Aldrich, USA) as a peripheral dopa-decarboxylase inhibitor.
Levodopa and
benserazide hydrochloride tablets were administered.
She was using 100 mg L-Dopa+25 mg
benserazide, 0.25 mg pramipexole, 25 mg carvedilol, rasagiline, 150 mg irbesartan, 12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide and 100 mg acetylsalicylic acid tablets.
Animals received the intraperitoneal administration with saline or 25 mg/kg of levodopa methyl ester mixed with 6.25 mg/kg of
benserazide tablets (Roche Diagnostics, Penzberg, Germany) dissolved in sterile saline once daily at 15:00 for another 21 consecutive days.
Treatment of restless legs syndrome with levodopa plus
benserazide. Arch Neurol 1982;39:739.
The majority of Parkinson's Disease patients receive Levodopa, however when administered orally, the drug, combined with a decarboxylase inhibitor (carbidopa or
benserazide), demonstrates a short clearance half-life and low bioavailability that contribute to motor complications in Parkinson's disease patients.
His previous medical history included: (a) a 30-year history of hypertension that had been controlled at about 140/90 mmHg with amlodipine 5mg/d; (b) a 4-year history of type II diabetes treated with 50 mg acarbose tid (keeping the blood sugar to about 7.8mmol/L); (c) a 2-year history of Parkinson's disease treated with 125mg
benserazide tid; and (d) a 2-month history of visual hallucinations that were being controlled with 1.25 mg olanzapine bid.
