Thiazide diuretics (eg
bendrofluazide, hydrochlorothiazide and chlorothiazide) and non-thiazides with the same pharmacological actions (eg chlorthalidone and indapamide) block the action of the [Na.sup.+]/ [Cl.sup.-] co-transporter in the distal tubules (Figure 3, E).
In the other 2 cases, additional contact allergens included: oxprenolol hydrochloride and epichlorohydrin (a substrate used in the manufacture of medicaments) [3] and hydralazine,
bendrofluazide, and several components of the thiuram series [4].
Bendrofluazide and hydrochlorathiozide WHO recommended cost-effective preparations are not available while an expensive analogue indipamide is freely available.
Oral
bendrofluazide (2.5 mg daily) was commenced and over the next three days the urine output settled to 40-60 ml/h.
The international governing body World Bowls has decided there was a legitimate medical reason for the presence of the diuretic
bendrofluazide in a urine sample given by a male bowler at the British Isles Championships in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, in June.
Urine from 20 anonymous patients receiving drug therapy, including antihypertensive medication (
bendrofluazide, amiloride, atenolol, enalapril, ramipril, amlodipine, doxazosin), psychotropic drugs (diazepam, chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine, sertraline), antibiotics (amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole), as well as omeprazole, alendronate, and gliclazide, were tested.
She paid pounds 5 for a 15-minute session after advising the attendant of her prescription for
Bendrofluazide, a common water tablet.
Britain's best-known and most successful woman rider persuaded the Jockey Club's Disciplinary Committee yesterday that the presence of
bendrofluazide in the urine sample she provided at Newcastle on March 28 was the result of a prescription drug she had taken.
After enrollment, patients were randomly assigned to receive either captopril 50 mg daily given in 1 or 2 doses or conventional antihypertensive treatment with diuretics (hydrochiorothiazide 25 mg or
bendrofluazide 2.5 mg once dally), [Beta]-blockers (most common were atenolol or metoprolol 50-100 mg once daily), or a combination of a diuretic and a [Beta]-blocker.
Here are some of the better-known ones: the anti-ulcer drug and indigestion remedy cimetidine, water tablets like
bendrofluazide, the anti-fungal ketoconazole, the heart pill digoxin, beta-blockers like propanolol and the hormonal treatments for prostate cancer (like cyproterone acetate).
Such medications included warfarin (17 patients), frusemide (six), NSAID (two), bumetanide, isosorbide mononitrate, cimetidine,
bendrofluazide, thyroxine and gliclazide in one patient each.
In mild HF, a thiazide diuretic such as
bendrofluazide may be effective.
