battered-baby syndrome

The clinical condition of a baby or young child who has been assaulted. The child is often malnourished. There may be multiple bruising, including finger marks, X-ray indication of healed fractures, tearing of the central fold behind the upper lip, cigarette burns, bite marks, and sometimes indications of bleeding inside the skull or brain.
