assistant general practitioner

An obsolete UK term for a general practitioner (GP) employed by one or more GPs who are principals in a practise. Assistant GPs had a contract with a specific general practice and not with the local health authority. The term is essentially equivalent to “salaried GP with a view” (to partnership).
