Can peripheral venous blood gases replace
arterial blood gases in emergency department patients?
When interpreting the values of predialysis
arterial blood gases, normal acid-base status was the most common with 43% (n=40), followed by metabolic alkalosis with chronic hydrogen ion deficiency in 19,6% (n=18), with an average nPCR of 1,03 ([+ or -]0,19) and MIS of 5 (IQR 4 - 6).
The efficacy was assessed by improvement in the clinical signs, renal function tests and
arterial blood gases. The course was observed through indications for dialysis, number of days of dialysis and complications associated with PD.
The discrepancy between the oxygen saturation measured by pulse oximetry and that measured by direct
arterial blood gases (ABG) suggested the presence of methemoglobinemia, which was an indirect measurement as direct methemoglobin measurement was not feasible [Figure 1].
Based on momentous deviations in serum electrolyte levels and in
arterial blood gases in experimental groups it is concluded that NiSO4.7H2O is an active toxicant for L.
An internet search identified several web sites that discussed interpretation of
