adrenal cortical syndrome

An antiquated, nonspecific term used in primary publications in the 1930s, whose authors variously applied it to hypo- and hyperfunction of the adrenal gland. It has been replaced by the condition-specific terms Addison's disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Conn syndrome and Cushing syndrome; adrenal cortical syndrome is therefore best regarded as as inappropriate for working medical parlance.
