Coccygeal polypoid eccrine nevus is a benign unique eccrine nevus located in the coccygeal area, characterized histopathologically by normal or hyperplastic eccrine glands surrounded by normal fibroadipose tissue with occasional overlying
acanthotic and hyperkeratotic epidermis.
At 10x magnification a regularly
acanthotic epidermis with hyperkeratosis alternating with parakeratosis.
The epithelium is
acanthotic and shows basal atypia.
The histopathology from a papule showed hyperkeratotic and
acanthotic epidermis.
Thickened,
acanthotic and hyper-keratotic stratified squamous epithelium is also present with elongated rete ridges.
Acanthotic epithelium and corium is seen corresponding to surrounding outline.
The histopathology of BD lesions is characterized by hyperkeratosis; parakeratosis; loss of orderly maturation, polarity, and a granular layer; and keratinocytic atypia involving the entire
acanthotic epithelial layer.
A shave biopsy of a neck plaque identified a hyperkeratotic,
acanthotic, spongiotic dermatitis with lymphocytes and scattered eosinophils.
In group 2, the feather follicles at the 20-second treated site (primary feather 10) had
acanthotic epithelium and mild heterophilic or lymphocytic inflammation (Fig 3).
Other Digital Fibromas Including Acral and Subungual Angiofibroma, Acquired Digital Fibrokeratoma, and Acquired Reactive Digital Fibroma.--Acquired digital fibrokeratoma (ADF) is normally a polypoid acral lesion histologically showing vertically oriented collagen and fibrocytes in the dermis, which are typically encased by the
acanthotic, hyperkeratotic epidermis.
However, a deep-seated nodule was found in the umbilicus with the clinical impression of "umbilical sinus." He underwent surgery and excisional biopsy; histopathologic examination revealed a polypoid lesion protruded to umbilicus covered by
acanthotic epidermis (Figure 2) with a prominent increase in eccrine coils and dermal fibrosis (Figure 3).
2 of the cases of Bullous pemphigoid (BP) had hyperkeratotic and
acanthotic epidermis and all cases showed spongiosis with basal cell vacuolation.
