Fossil fuel combustion is the main source of P[M.sub.2.5] and
sulfur oxide pollution in U.S.
DME is made from natural gas and does not produce
sulfur oxide. It is expected to be used as an alternative to liquid petroleum gas and diesel oil.
Apart from chemicals and waste disposal, the index also includes carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and
sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions.
One of their biggest concerns is that residents will breathe in diesel fuel generator-produced pollutants such as dioxins, carbon monoxide by-products,
sulfur oxide, and nitrous oxide, which mixes with oxygen in the atmosphere to produce ozone.
The oil industry expects dimethyl ether to serve as a next-generation clean energy because it emits no
sulfur oxide and little nitrogen oxide when burnt.
