An annual herb, the aerial parts of which contain mucilage, saponins and vitamin C; it has been used internally for bronchitis, pulmonary congestion, gastric ulcers, rheumatic complaints, and sore throat, and topically for abscesses, bites, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis

A COMMON Chickweed, known as Stellaria media, is an easy annual weed to kill using a contact weed killer.

I surveyed 10 randomly selected 100-[cm.sup.2] subplots in each 1-[m.sup.2] plot for the presence or absence of ten common exotic species (Alliaria officinalis, Glecoma hederacea, Stellaria media, Lonicera japonica, Hedera helix, Duchesnea indica, Urtica dioica, Veronica hederaefolia, Lamium purpureum and Rosa multiflora).
However, early spring senescence of chickweed (Stellaria media L.), low competitiveness, and its reseeding characteristics indicated this species had potential as a winter cover-crop.
