A rare, usually autosomal dominant [MIM 606072],occasionally sporadic disorder of adolescent onset, that occurs when local muscle compression evokes myo-oedema, followed by longitudinal contraction, moving transversely across the muscle in a 10-20 muscle fascicle wave, fancifully likened to ‘plucking a chromatic scale on a harp’; while resembling myotonia, rippling muscle disease is electrically silent and clinically benign

rippling muscle disease

A usually AD, occasionally sporadic disorder of adolescent onset, that occurs when local muscle compression evokes myoedema, followed by longitudinal contraction, moving transversely across the muscle in a 10-20 muscle fascicle wave, fancifully likened to 'plucking a chromatic scale on a harp'; while resembling myotonia, RMD is electrically silent and clinically benign.
