RCC1

Also found in: Acronyms.

RCC1

A gene on chromosome 1p36.1 that encodes a guanine-nucleotide releasing factor that promotes the exchange of Ran-bound GDP by GTP. The RCC1 protein product helps regulate the onset of S-phase chromosome condensation, binding to nucleosomes and double-stranded DNA. The RCC1-Ran complex with other proteins is part of a signal transmission pathway that detects unreplicated DNA. RCC1 plays a key role in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport, mitosis and nuclear-envelope assembly.
