One patient underwent hysterectomy three months after the septum exeresis due to infectious complications, one underwent salpingectomy and oophorectomy due to tube ovarian abscess, and one patient was submitted to salpingectomy due to
pyosalpinx associated with rudimentary horn exeresis.
The ascent of infection from vagina to upper genital tract may lead to hydrosalpinx,
pyosalpinx and tubo-ovarian mass.
Involvement of the fallopian tubes is typically bilateral and can lead to
pyosalpinx. In
pyosalpinx, ultrasound can show a distended fallopian tube filled with complex fluid and debris.
A
pyosalpinx associated with Plesiomonas shigelloides was previously reported in an immunocompetent woman with presumed exposure from swimming in a contaminated sea bay [6].
The most commonly encountered are ovarian cyst rupture or torsion, haemorrhage into an ovarian cyst, hydrosalpinx or
pyosalpinx, endometriosis and ectopic pregnancy.
Endometriosis is common complications, if not treated in time; the condition can progress to secondary endometriosis, pelvic adhesion,
pyosalpinx, and even pyocolpos.
In the peritoneum, a variety of inflammatory conditions exist including acute diffuse peritonitis in response to perforated abdominal viscera (acute appendicitis, diverticulitis, or peptic ulceration), inflammatory bowel disease, ischemic bowel after gynecologic tract infection (
pyosalpinx, ovarian abscess), or urinary tract sepsis (renal abscess, bladder rupture).
16S rRNA gene amplification and sequencing detected
pyosalpinx, caused by Leptotrichia amnioni, in a patient whose samples were culture-negative.
If the fimbriated end of the tube becomes blocked, acute
pyosalpinx can result.
Hydrosalpinx or
pyosalpinx often accompany these cases.
There were two false-positive diagnoses, both of which were
pyosalpinx. The positive predictive value was 94%.
