Protochordata
a division of the phylum Chordata, including the Hemichordata, Urochorda and Cephalochorda. The group lacks a vertebral column, cranium and organs associated with the region of the head in other chordates, but has a dorsal nerve chord and gill slits.Collins Dictionary of Biology, 3rd ed. © W.
