COMBINING THE ANTERIOR, MIDDLE AND
POSTERIOR COLUMNS IN AIRWAY ASSESSMENT
Some surgeons have modified SPO into a more
posterior column resection and anterior osteoclasis and have achieved over 30[degrees] of correction at one level.[sup][8] It should be noted that SPO is susceptible to sagittal translation of the spinal column, which can cause cord compromise.
The prominent sensory ataxia with only mild motor findings pointed toward a lesion of the
posterior columns. This finding, in conjunction with a history of macrocytic anemia, suggested the subacute combined degeneration syndrome of vitamin B12 deficiency.

All fracture types based on Letournel and Judet classification involving the anterior column, anterior wall,
posterior column, and posterior wall, except the ones mentioned in the exclusion criteria, were included.
Fracture patterns were transverse in 5 (1 males and 4 females); posterior wall in 3 (1 male and 2 females);
posterior column and wall in 1 (a female); one transverse and posterior wall (a female); and 1 with associated femoral neck fracture.
The advantages of LLIF compared with PLIF or TLIF are avoidance of blood loss from the extradural venous plexus, less invasion of the
posterior column and muscle, and possibly faster interbody fusion with a higher fusion rate [11].
In the anatomical three-column model described by Denis (5), the anterior column includes the anterior longitudinal ligament and the anterior half of the vertebral body and the annulus fibrosus, the middle column includes the posterior half of the vertebral body and the annulus fibrosus along with the posterior longitudinal ligament, and the
posterior column includes the bone and ligamentous structures posterior to the posterior longitudinal ligament.
They have also suggested that the pedicle connects the anterior column (body) and
posterior column (Neural arch).
The
posterior column of the acetabulum was addressed via a Kocher Langenbeck approach [7] and the anterior column was addressed with a Pfannenstiel incision and a modified-Stoppa approach [8].
